THE UCKFIELD OSCARS...The Uscars will, for a second year running, take place at the Uckfield Picture House between 2-4pm on Tuesday 6th May. It highlights the films made by sixth formers in Film Studies and Media Studies A'Level courses at UCTC. Tickets are £1 for staff and sixth form students and family...although out there in cyber-space there is one on E-Bay that is currently £750.00!!!

Well Howdy y'all over there in Uckfield. I have a couple of friends that live there and thought I'd take a look at your little ole guest book. Not what I thought it would be, with all the real things going on in our countries...thought there would either be more griping about the real worries going on or remembering to a time when our little cities were places we could walk down the street and smile, and speak to each other. Bake cakes and cookies from scratch and share them with neighbors and family. Thank god that there is a WiFi hub near here now.... I've been stuck in the old toilets by the bridge since the council boarded it up. Isn't the punctuation of the majority of entries on this site, simply quite appalling? e.g. In the last entry, there should have been a comma inserted before the word "get". The word "Ill"(which could mistakenly refer to the person as being "off colour" should in fact be shown as "I'll" - the abreviated form of "I will" i.e. "I'll smack you with...". I think that some of you need to get your facts straight! The youth shelter in Luxfords Field was funded by Uckfield Town Council from its Leisure and Amenities budget - Not from the generous fund set-aside specifically for building a new skate park. The "Cage" at the drive was also funded from this Leisure and Amenities budget with extra financial help from Sussex Police. The "big Uckfield sign" was funded as part of a Youth Project by East Sussex County Council which the town wasn't even aware of, yet alone part of. The Town Council has actively set aside funds for a new skate park over the last few years, as well as providing the land for its location. It has also co-ordinated and supported other organisations in their bids to achieve funding from other sources. This is a team effort and has almost reached the point where construction can finally start. exciting state of the art skatepark plans are currently being drawn up. It is important that if you really do want to see a championship standard skatepark built in Uckfield soon, rather than waste your time moaning about stuff, you get should get involved! The Hollybush Cafe was adjoined to the Uckfield Club and was never taken over by the latter. I remember Mr and Mrs Morris who lived behind and ran the cafe; also their daughter and son. I used to deliver eggs to them on Saturdays.

And I am sure building a skatepark will reduce under-age driking and smoking. And I have no problem with skateboarders. I lived in Uckfield from 1978(the very dry year) until 2005)and had many friends there. My children went to Holy Cross School and Uckfield Community College. Mr Edward Gooch was headmaster at Holy Cross when my first child went and what a lovely man he was. Very fair but very strict! I really miss Uckfield and the wonderful community spirit.

The holly Bush Cafe was situated next door to the old Drill Hall, approximately where "Kids Stuff" is now. Before its demolition to make way for the Bell Walk development, the Cafe became the Uckfield Club for a number of years. My husband's grandfather John Walder migrated from Uckfield to Melbourne Australia in 1913 on the S.S.Osterley. His wife Eliza (formerly Wren) and their four children followed on the Makarini. I am seeking background on their families and Uckfield at that time as I am writing a book. John's parents were Jesse and Esther Walder.They may have lived in East Grinstead. Eliza's family were Moses and Mary Ann Wren. She was a Jeffrey. They lived at Bakers Cottages Framfield Road Uckfield. They all belonged to a religious group called The Open Brethren which may be why John and Eliza migrated as they were very strong in establishing the Brethren and Assemblies of God Churches in Australia. Undertaker I'm not to sure about Eric der Engineers reuseable coffins. Two weeks ago I attended an internment of a dear old Mrs Higgingbottom, only the undertaker and I knew it was a Basingstoke Mk5 coffin. Well the coffin did not completly rise up through the ground but pushed up mounds of earth like giant Mole hills all over the cemertery.
